Read, write and speak in Social Sciences

My favourite subject this semester is "Read, write and speak in Social Sciences". It's about teaching us how to approach the texts that they give us to read in our respective careers. On practicing the analysis of these, how to interpret them. Also improve our way of expressing ourselves in public, thinking about the time to have an oral test. Making us recently relaxation exercises to cope with stress and pressure in times of final tests and exams, with an actress teacher in charge. She is also the one in charge of the activities of corporal and oral expression.

We have done the texts's analysis  (stories and papers), reading works, evaluating the work of colleagues of the previous semester, learning to perform research work (how to make the structure of these), folders with the compilation of the previous activities, techniques of relaxation and, lately, we have carried out activities of oral and corporal expression, together with an evaluation of these, so that they have to be applied theatrically.

I like this subject, because I feel relaxed, I do not feel pressures. In addition to the activities that we do are focused on improving our performance as first-year students of our respective careers.

It seems to me a very useful subject, especially for those of us who are just beginning with university life. I would like it to be a compulsory assignment, because of the contents that it covers and the intention behind them. Ceasing to be an optional something like "general training course". Since one does not know what it is, tends to pass these, losing what one can learn.

Thanks 4 reading!

Janes Addams

Jane Addams, I do not know much about her, except than ... she was a feminist, pacifist and reforming American sociologist. She was born Cedarville, Illinois, on September 6, 1860. She died in Chicago on May 21, 1935. He founded the Hull House with Ellen Gates Starr in 1889. Both were the pioneers of the field today known as Social Work.

Observing the clear differences that were around him, he created, one of the first refuges in the United States, inspired by the Toynbee Hall in South London, founded by Samuel Barnett in 1885, the Hull House. being these, the shelters were centers where the poor received training and social benefits, and were an advance in social reforms.

I find a very interesting and inspiring woman. Since, despite the time, she was enlightened, and criticized around him and tried to change it, finally getting it. And setting a precedent regarding social policies. Obtaining with them, the Nobel Prize of La Paz in 1931.

If it were not for her, social work would not exist and problems such as "the social question" would not even be questioned, they would not be a topic.

I hope it has inspired you to know more about her and her interesting life.

The Book Of Life

It is a film that deals a lot with the recent festivities. I mean the "día de los muertos". Although it is more in the collective unconscious (not to say commercial) "Halloween", for the fact of disguising itself and asking for sweets -in the case of children-. And parties with costumes, in the case of teenagers.

Well, despite being located in Mexico, is a 3D American movie of romantic comedy and adventure, inspired by the celebration of the Day of the Dead; It was animated by computer and produced by Reel FX Creative Studios, distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Story account of Manolo, who is torn between following the expectations of his family and continue the family legacy of being a bullfighter, or his passion: music. Meanwhile, as a child he fights with his best friend, Joaquín, for the love of María. Who her father sent her to travel to Europe to study.

Looking like this, a love triangle between these 3 friends. To those who La Catrina, ruler of the land of the remembered, and Xibalba, ruler of the land of the forgotten. They make a wager on the day of the dead of who will stay with Mary's heart at the moment she returns to the village. La Catrina opted for Manolo and Xibalba for Joaquín. The latter becoming the hero of the town, thanks to the help of this to give a brooch that makes it untouchable. La Catrina opted for Manolo and Xibalba for Joaquín. The latter becoming the hero of the town, thanks to the help of this to give a brooch that makes it untouchable. And Manolo, on the other hand, is trained by his father to continue with the family tradition and be a bullfighter.
So when María returns to the town, it is the town's event. And she can see how much everything has changed. And her two friends too, who do not hesitate a moment to flirt her.

Starting there the bet of Xibalba and La Catrina, seeing an interference of the first over the three friends who, to win the bet. Making Manolo face various challenges to get Maria's love and her life that is compromised.
It is a very entertaining film, which shows us many elements of the Mexican culture and that special day they commemorate their ancestors.
