Jane Addams, I do not know much about her, except than ... she was a feminist, pacifist and
reforming American sociologist. She was born Cedarville, Illinois, on September
6, 1860. She died in Chicago on May 21, 1935. He founded the Hull House with
Ellen Gates Starr in 1889. Both were the pioneers of the field today known as
Social Work.
Observing
the clear differences that were around him, he created, one of the first
refuges in the United States, inspired by the Toynbee Hall in South London,
founded by Samuel Barnett in 1885, the Hull House. being these, the shelters
were centers where the poor received training and social benefits, and were an
advance in social reforms.
I find a
very interesting and inspiring woman. Since, despite the time, she was
enlightened, and criticized around him and tried to change it, finally getting
it. And setting a precedent regarding social policies. Obtaining with them, the
Nobel Prize of La Paz in 1931.
If it were
not for her, social work would not exist and problems such as "the social
question" would not even be questioned, they would not be a topic.
I hope it
has inspired you to know more about her and her interesting life.
Thanks for reading!
